Over the last few years, my work has undergone several incarnations. I have experimented with many mediums and evolved with several distinct styles. My most recent work is a departure once again. I wanted a change in subject, medium and style. I had always been interested in the19th century illustrator Aubrey Beardsley. I also have an interest in Medieval European, Asian art, and Surrealist women artists such as Romedios Varo, Dorothea Tanning and of course, Frida Kahlo. I am just beginning this series and as of March 2007, compiling information and ideas that may or may not be seen in the finished works.
I have come across yet another technique that involves an ink drawing on panel, spray-paint and in the end, the surface looks like a woodcut matrix. The surface is tactile and some illusion of three-dimensional space is evident. However, I am trying to keep the usual perspective tricks to a minimum.
The content continues with an idea that I had regarding Sacred Spaces. The figures are isolated within a space that holds personal sanctity. The figures are also posed with enchanted fingers which is a defense but also a signifier of creative energy/power. This could be a kind of magic that is channeled through the output of the creative mind.
